Dorothy Perry is a veteran Chicago photojournalist and upscale people photographer who makes very personal commissioned portrait and life-event images for a visually sophisticated clientele: architects, musicians, designers and individuals who love fine BW and color photography of themselves and their families.

She got her start as a photojournalist for the Chicago Reader and began shooting BW weddings in the 1990s on the encouragement of wedding guru Steven E. Gross. Black and white weddings are still a mainstay of her boutique studio, and over the years, her edgy, light-oriented product imagery has garnered a loyal following from wedding artisans like couture designer Elda de la Rosa and hip Bucktown bakery Sweet Thang.

Lesser known, but just as important, is that she is also an intuitive psychic, and uses this skill and focus to alert her eyes and reflexes to the “zen moments” that last just a second, but reveal images of true natural grace and beauty.

Dorothy has an BFA in fine arts and printmaking from Drake University, and attended Columbia College’s Graduate School of Photography. She, however, credits The School of Real-Life Responsibilities for honing her craft, and advises new photographers to learn about the business of photography through seminars and networking with photography organizations while going to school.

Her plans for the future are to to continue to increase visibility for her work and studio, continue work on a documentary photo project on high-functioning autistic children, and shoot portrait commissions that continue to push the creative envelope.
